About my Five-Decade Journey in the Retail Business — From Store Manager to Senior Vice President
My journey to Retail Rescue of Arizona began in 1972, working part-time at the first Discount Tire store founded and owned by Mr. Bruce Halle. What a privilege and honor it was to work under and be trained in business skills by this retail giant and amazing man of integrity.
At that time, I was also attending Eastern Michigan University studying to become an Industrial Arts teacher. My passion for industrial arts, building, and racing cars and motorcycles fueled my excitement to become a permanent part of Discount Tire.
My career advancement continued at a fast pace based on demonstrating strong business knowledge, leadership and relationship building skills. Within months, I moved through the store ranks and became a Store Manager.
My experience as a Store Manager for 8 years enabled me to run my own business. The learning was powerful and taught me how to manage and grow a business during both prosperous and challenging times.
Midway in my career, I was promoted to executive functions, holding the positions of Assistant Vice President in three states, Regional Vice President of California, Senior Vice President of Operations over 8 states, Senior Vice President of Web Sales, and Senior Vice President National Fleet/Commercial.
Throughout my career, I had opportunities to attend and receive certifications in leadership, sales, and business concepts from Thunderbird School of International Management, Michelin, BF Goodrich and Continental Tire.
My Depth of Experience Enables Me to Bring my Expertise and Knowledge to Retail Rescue of Arizona to Help Businesses Like Yours Grow to their Full Potential.
I understand the importance of company culture, of having a clear vision, what it means to be resilient, and how to grow a business. This is demonstrated in my work that helped take Discount Tire Company from 17 stores in 1972 to over 1000 stores in 2020, operating 28 states and employing over 20,000 employees to become the largest independently-owned tire business in the world.
